Course overview
AIM OF THIS MODULE
In this module you will
- Learn about how brands (employer brand v/s personal brand) help you prepare for taking your first steps into work and your career.
- Investigate your personal brand ( people's opinion of you v/s your opinion of yourself) and be introduced to a tool you can use to assess your personal brand to increase your self awareness.
- Produce your ideal brand statement and practice communicating it in a way that will make you unforgettable to employers.
- Discover how to use The LEAD Formula to unlock the value in your story to provide evidence for the question 'who am I?' and what drives you.
- Practise answering the question who am I? using stories, in speaking, personal mantra, CV, presentation and interview in an unforgettable way
FORMAT
This course is in a fortnightly format. Every two weeks you will
- be given a leadership challenge to complete in your group or individually
- meet with your mentors for 40 minutes every two weeks
- Evaluate your progress every two weeks
There are no active assessments. The course is self-paced during the two weeks.
ESTIMATED TIME
This course will take about 10 hours to complete over 3 months

This course is the first module of the REAPS Toolkit ( view BBC employees interpretation of REAPS). This module is called Raise The Bar.

By the end of this course, you will be able to
- Confidently speak about your opinion of yourself in an unforgettable way
- Be aware of how your personal brand and employer brand are related in terms of starting your career and finding employment.
- Use your stories as a source of evidence to support the value you can add to the work place and the world.
- Demonstrate how The LEAD Mindset helps you to stand out to employers and how it can put you in control of your career success.
Course structure
How this course is structured
- This course was purchased by your school.
- You must be selected by your school or college to gain access to this course
- The course is blended - this means you do some sessions face to face and some offline.
- During the offline sessions you can still communicate with your mentors or send us messages via the General discussion forum.
- Providing feedback and completing self-evaluations are essential in this course. We use your feedback to improve your LEAD experience and help you to grow as a leader. Self-evaluations are for your personal development.
Leadership Challenges & completion
Attached you will find a resource that outlines the knowledge you will gain and the leadership challenges.
To complete the course, you must complete all the leadership challenges. This course is experiential. This means no grades are awarded, you get out of the course what you put into it.
Completing the challenges
For every challenge we provide:
- challenge information labelled as LC (Leadership Challenge) followed by the challenge number.
- challenge task - what you have to complete as a LEADer group or individually
- Challenge learning check
In your team, everyone must take a turn to be the group leader for a challenge. That person will ensure everyone completes the challenge.
Once the activities are completed, you mark them as done.
Certificates
Once you have completed the course, you will be automatically awarded with a certificate.
Next Steps
Once you successfully complete this course, your school or academic institution may automatically enrol you to the next module in this LEAD journey - Example of Excellence.
